Event Director’s Update

Second survey went well, although we didn’t venture all the way to Alice which was a good decision as it turned out with 200ml of rain falling causing the Todd River to flood for the first time in almost 6 years.

That part of this year’s KKR will be surveyed again in May; the rest of the course is pretty well locked down now with only some private property tracks needing a bit of tidying up.

We are heading off again for a short survey on the 12th February.
Over-all this year’s rally won’t be a car breaker, in our opinion it will be a lot easier than last year. Most of the roads and tracks are well maintained, a bit rough and rocky at times, but will provide a challenge and plenty of action for everyone.
The mystery camp night will be a highlight, a great spot in the middle of nowhere, but with a well stocked bar!! Should be a great night for all (Reminiscent of Byrock perhaps? For those who remember that night!!! Ouch).

After a lay-day at Coober Pedy there will also be a two night stay at Mildura with only two rally stages on the morning of the second day allowing you the afternoon free to do as you please. These two stages are very good driver sections so a rest will be needed by lunchtime anyway! From Mildura to Ouyen may cause a problem or two because there is a lot of sand to negotiate throughout the day. Good driving skills will help and we will have 4WDs positioned along the way for assistance if required.
This year will provide some lovely outback scenery, especially in the desert areas, along with rocky outcrops and dry lakes. You will also see thermal pools in the most unlikely places (it could be worth a dip so don’t forget your swimming costumes!)

The accommodation list is now available and has been emailed to everyone. Please let us know if you haven’t received a copy. The first bulk order of door stickers (decals) have been ordered and will be mailed out to you as soon as we receive them, hopefully in the next week or two.
For all the “Rally Virgins”, (along with any regulars who may have changed vehicles and require another), we have windscreen stickers available if you want one. They have the KKR logo with the words Kidney Kar Rally and fit across the top of the windscreen. Please let us know ASAP if you’d like one included with your door stickers.
